Senior Structural Engineer – Limerick Office

PUNCH Consulting Engineers has a vacancy for a Senior Structural Engineer based in our Limerick Office.

PUNCH was founded in 1973, we have offices in Limerick, Dublin, Cork, Galway, and Glasgow. We work on a broad range of projects across such sectors as healthcare, education, conservation, retail, residential, civil infrastructure and environmental. We require an Engineer with passion, skill, and a desire to learn to join our team to deliver the high-profile engineering projects for which we are known.

Qualifications

You will possess a degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent, have a minimum of 6 years post graduate experience and have attained Chartered Status with Institution of Civil Engineers or equivalent. Chartered Membership of the Institution of Structural Engineers is required within 2 years of appointment.

Attributes

  • A sound understanding of engineering principles and a strong technical focus, ability to apply engineering principles and codes of practice to solve technical problems
  • Excellent conceptual design abilities to provide robust and economical solutions.
  • Significant base of IT skills including;
    • Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Project
    • AutoCAD
    • Structural design software such as CADS, SCIA, Fastrack, STRAP, TEDDS, etc.
  • The ability to source and use new design software to benefit project work
  • Independent judgement in the application of engineering science and knowledge including complex design, construction and management
  • Leadership skills to plan, manage and direct human, material and financial resources required to solve complex problems in multi-disciplinary teams
  • High level of commercial understanding and application
  • Understanding of the Irish regulatory and policy issues
  • Implement full Project Delivery Process including GCC Contracts
  • A successful track record working closely in partnership with clients and contractors and other members of design teams.
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written

Key Responsibilities & Activities

  • As a senior engineer you will be responsible for the technical, managerial and commercial aspects of your projects. Your work will be carried out in accordance with the company ISO procedures
  • Effective delivery of projects to include preparation of all contract documentation, project costing, budgeting, programming, attend / chair site meetings, measurement of work for payment purposes, manage contractual issues, site monitoring to ensure compliance / site supervision, contribute to the handover and take over of completed projects
  • Prepare risk assessments, health & safety plans
  • Check concept and technical correctness of work prepared by staff reporting to you.
  • Effective communication skills to facilitate written and verbal interaction with colleagues, team members, contractors and Clients
  • Demonstrate efficient work practices, avoiding abortive work, working within budget, tracking extra services and ensuring the effective use of resources
  • Preparation of fee proposals and submissions for approval (fees less than €40k). Attend interviews and give presentations
  • Develop new Client relationships and manage established Client relationships
  • Develop the skills of staff that report to you through mentoring, delegation and training
  • Attend Project Managers Meetings

Key Deliverables

  • Responsible for the technical, managerial and commercial aspects of significant projects from inception to handover. To include issuing of invoices, collection of fees and management of client satisfaction
  • Responsible for Contract procurement, administration and delivery
  • In depth technical knowledge across a range of disciplines
  • Clear, concise and user friendly written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrate efficient work practices, avoiding abortive work, working within budget, tracking extra services and ensuring the effective use of resource
  • Work closely in partnership with Clients, Contractors, other members of the design team and colleagues
  • Develop new Client relationships and manage established Client relationships
