Martin joined PUNCH in 1985 and became a director in 1987.

Martin joined McCarthy & Partners (now Atkins) as a graduate in 1979, working principally in their Roads & Bridges department until 1985. In the same period, Martin also worked on an occasional contract basis for ICDS Consultants on projects in Saudi Arabia, including bridges on the Mecca-Medinah highway and basement structures in King Khalid Military City.

Recognising the increasing importance of Health & Safety as a core consideration for designers, Martin undertook postgraduate study in 2006/7, leading to the award of an MBS in Safety & Health at Work. He established PUNCH Health & Safety of which is Director and has responsibility for compliance with all Safety Legislation within the practice.

Martin has specialised in civil engineering structures and particularly bridgeworks and has twice served on the advisory panel for the National Roads Authority’s Specification for Roads & Bridges. In the role of Safety Director, he promotes the idea that consideration of safety will lead to more buildable and economical projects.

Martin enjoys gardening in good weather and golf in all weather.
