Donal joined PUNCH Consulting Engineers in their Limerick Office in 2007 having graduated from the University of the West of Scotland with a Bachelor of Engineering degree (Civils). Donal rose to Project Engineer in 2012, Senior Engineer in 2014 before being appointed Technical Director in 2017. Donal worked in our Dublin office in 2014/2015 managing the Civil Engineering Department before returning to Limerick in 2015.
Donal now manages the Civil Engineering Department in PUNCH Limerick office and has developed expert skills in hydraulic modelling of surface water sewers, foul water sewers, Traffic and Transportation Assessments, Workplace Travel Plans, Surface Water Audits and Design Manual for Urban Roads & Streets/Transport Infrastructure Ireland compliant road designs. He has developed strong working relationships with Clients, Local Authorities, Irish Water and OPW Representatives that have led to the successful delivery of many projects.
Donal has been responsible for managing Civil Engineering design teams on a number of Civil Infrastructure design and master planning projects. Projects include housing, commercial, education, healthcare, sports/leisure, regeneration and mixed use developments.
During his time in Dublin, Donal undertook a number of Surface Water Audits for projects within the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council area and now promotes the use of Sustainable Infrastructure on all projects. Examples of these include green roofs, permeable paving, swales and rain water harvesting.
Donal graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2015 with a Post Graduate Diploma in Health and Safety in Construction. As well as having extensive experience in Civil Engineering Design, Donal has also built up a wealth of experience in the area of Health and Safety and acting as Project Supervisor for the Design Process (PSDP). Donal has acted as Health and Safety Co-Ordinator on a number of projects where PUNCH have been appointed as PSDP. Projects include student accommodation blocks, a smokeless fuel processing facility, GAA sports pitches, Olympic grade hockey pitches and numerous office fit outs. Donal ensures our clients are in full compliance with their obligations under the Safety, Health and welfare at Work Act and Safety Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations.
In his spare time Donal enjoys gardening, cycling, golfing and walking his dog Dubh and would describe himself as a “fair weather” sportsman. When not enjoying the outdoors, Donal enjoys attending Munster rugby matches and following the Clare hurlers.
