BE(Civil) (Hons) MSc CEng MIEI
Julie graduated from National University of Ireland Galway with a Bachelor of Engineering (Civils) in 2006 after which she joined PUNCH as a graduate. Julie moved to Australia in 2008 and while living and working there she completed a Master’s Degree in Water Resource Management. After a 5 year absence Julie returned to Ireland and to PUNCH in 2013 as a Senior Engineer. Julie is a Chartered Engineer since 2013.
Her time working in the subtropical climate of Queensland Australia sparked Julie’s interest in stormwater design and flood risk management. The intensity of rainfall in such a climate ensured that capturing and diversion of flows was critical to project design. Although the intensity in Ireland is significantly lower there is plenty of opportunity for Julie to utilise her in depth knowledge of drainage and flood management in current projects all over Ireland.
Julie now leads the Flooding Department in PUNCH and has extensive knowledge in river and floodplain modelling and management. She has managed flood studies for sites all over Ireland and designs mitigation measures for flood prone areas on a regular basis. Her experience includes flood risk analysis and drainage design, using flood modelling packages such as TUFLOW, Flood Modeller and HEC-RAS, and drainage modelling software packages such as Micro-Drainage. She has provided detailed design solutions for Flood Risk Assessments, OPW Section 50 Applications and bridge design.
Julie has worked on the civil and infrastructural elements of a wide range of projects, where she has delivered economical, sustainable and buildable civil engineering schemes that are in full compliance with the requirements of Local Authorities, OPW and Fisheries Board. Julie has also been resident engineer on civil infrastructure projects. Her knowledge of site construction management is invaluable.
Julie is a competent traffic modeller and designer of DMURS and TII compliant road layouts. She is proficient at using TRL Junctions 9 packages Arcady & Picady. She has prepared numerous Traffic & Transportation Assessments & Mobility Management Plans for sites and can analyse junction capacities for existing and proposed sites.
In her spare time Julie likes to take part in fun runs and sprint triathlons, not competitively….but it is always good to have something to aim for to stay focussed in training.
