Kilmallock Waste Water Treatment Works Update

PUNCH Consulting Engineers are engaged as Employer’s Representative on behalf of Irish Water for Kilmallock Waste Water Treatment Plant Design, Build, Operate (DBO) Contract. Phase 1 of the Design-Build Phase included the design and construction of a new trunk combined sewer, waste water pumping station, storm water overflow storage tank, and waste water treatment plant. The main process stream is a two cell SBR system. Tertiary treatment comprises Post-P dosing, secondary effluent flocculation and micro-screen filtration.

The main civil engineering and building works are now complete and the new Plant has been commissioned. Waste water flows were diverted from the old waste water treatment plant to the new facility on 9th December 2013.  The new Plant provides upgraded waste water treatment facilities to cater for a population equivalent of 4,000 and operates to achieve a treated effluent standard of BOD 15mg/l, SS 15mg/l, P 1mg/l, N 1mg/l.  The new plant also incorporates waste water sludge reception and treatment facilities. Phase 2 of the Design-Build Phase saw the decommissioning and removal of the old waste water treatment facilities. Coffey Water Ltd. is the DBO Contractor and will operate and maintain the Waste Water Treatment Plant for a period of up to 20 years.
