The new National Film School was shortlisted for the School Building Project of the Year 25th RIAI Irish Architecture Awards.
Construction of the National Film School (NFS) was completed in August 2013. The three-storey building provides 1,500m² of studio space, which is located within the campus of Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology.
The NFS studios comprise of blue-screen studios, radio studios, lecture rooms and support facilities in a new, state-of-the-art school that connects to existing studios in the adjacent 19th century building ‘The Quadrangle’ at two floor levels to form an integrated educational Hub.
The building is located in a congested area of the campus where the needs and requirements of the existing students and staff needed to be considered during the design process and followed right through to construction. Particular emphasis was put on keeping access routes clear for emergency vehicles and the safety of the public and students.
