Merlin Wood, Doughiska Primary and post primary schools are situated on one campus and form part of the NDFA Schools Bundle 3: PPP with BAM Construction (Design & Build). PUNCH were the Civil & Structural Designers on this project which also included Secondary schools in Athlone, Ballinamore and Letterkenny.
The construction of the two Doughiska schools consists of traditional block and slab construction with brick façade on spread foundations. High bedrock levels resulted in some rock break out at some locations & lean mix make up in areas where rock levels dipped in order to alleviate differential settlements. Particular emphasis has been made in each school to provide an architecturally interesting and innovative design. This has followed through in the structural elements which have been complex and intricately detailed to the highest level.
This project is procured by the National Development Finance Agency and there are significant approval protocols associated with the design, releasing information for construction and site monitoring to be undertaken to meet the requirements of the D&B contract. The contract requires for the FM Contractor to maintain the schools for a 20 year concessionary period after completion of construction.
Our services included full Civil & Structural design from concept stage, planning, detailed design and through all stages of construction.
