PUNCH were involved in all aspects of the civil works required on site, in addition to the structural design for the sub-structure and roofing elements. Our services also included site monitoring of all project elements.
This project involved the provision of a sixteen classroom generic repeat design (GRD) school on a 3 acre site in Castledermot, Co. Carlow, in addition to external play areas, ball courts, car parking and landscaping. There was also an additional four classrooms required for the provision of special teaching facilities. The school caters for approximately 400 students.
This was an unusual project for PUNCH as it involved working with a set of drawings & specifications produced by the Department of Education for construction throughout the country as part of their GRD packages. The hope of the Department of Education is that these generic buildings will be constructed on a fast track basis and will be on time and on budget. We are happy to report that this is what has happened with the Castledermot project and its doors opened for school business in September 2009.
