In addition, larger infrastructural developments were completed including a new bridge across the River Shannon on the North Campus. Due to its proximity to the river, many locations across the campus were located within the flood plains requiring a significant amount of Civil Engineering works.
The University of Limerick (UL) was established in 1972 as the National Institute for Higher Education, Limerick and classified as the University of Limerick in 1989. The University is situated on a superb riverside campus of over 133 hectares with the River Shannon as a unifying focal point. PUNCH Consulting Engineers have provided a wide range of engineering services in the rapid building expansion of the University. Some of the developments include the Robert Schuman Building, the Kathleen Lonsdale Building, the Materials and Surface Sciences Institute, Plassey, Kilmurray, Dromroe and Thomond Villages in addition to the UL Millstream Refurbishment.
In addition to their civil and structural engineering services, PUNCH also provided the detailed works on phasing required for this live and active campus with almost 12,000 students.
