South Terrace Development Flood Risk Assessment

  • Client: Watfore Limited
  • Completion date: June 2014
  • PUNCH services: Flood Risk Assessment

PUNCH Consulting Engineers were appointed by Watfore Limited to carry out a site specific Flood Risk Assessment (FRA) Study in full compliance with the requirements of “The Planning System & Flood Management Guidelines” published by the Department of Environment in November 2009.

The site of the proposed development is located in Cork City Centre which has a history of both fluvial and tidal flooding. The project consisted of the conversion of disused commercial properties into a number of commercial units with basements. To ensure a development that was compatible with the flood risk management guidelines, flood risk to the site was considered throughout the design of the development. The basement of the development was considered highly vulnerable and measures were adopted in the design of the building to address this. Finished Floor Levels on the ground floor were raised above the 1:200 year flood level in Cork.
