Aughinish Alumina, owned by the Swiss-based natural resources group Glencore, operates a 24/7 alumina refinery situated on the Shannon River estuary, Co Limerick, Ireland. The company is the largest alumina refinery in Europe. Over the years PUNCH Consulting Engineers has worked on a wide range of projects for the company.
Most recently, PUNCH was commissioned to carry out a structural risk assessment to determine the integrity of an existing 7000m3 diesel tank for both operational and accidental loading. This assessment included a check of the original design which was completed by others and the design of improvements to alleviate the risk from accidental damage.
