PUNCH Consulting Engineers were appointed directly by Stryker Instruments for the provision of Civil & Structural engineering design services for this production expansion project at their manufacturing facility in Carrigtwohill, Cork. PUNCH also acted as the Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) for the client on this project.
The project involved the construction of a 510m2 single storey steel framed production facility at the rear of the existing manufacturing building. The project also involved extensive civil works including expansion of existing surface carpark, new surface water attenuation, petrol interceptor, modifications to the existing drainage network, service diversions and retaining structures.
A number of site specific restrictions and constraints had to be factored into the building design. The design had to facilitate the continued operation of the existing building, in which vibration sensitive manufacturing operations take place, for the full duration of the construction works. Furthermore, the design had to make provision for future adjacent extensions which could be constructed without any interruptions to the operation of the facility.
