The design completed by PUNCH Consulting Engineers included a 3-storey naturally ventilated building with glazed courtyards between the two blocks. This building has one of the lowest running costs of any of SAP’s facilities worldwide due to the sustainable solutions adopted by the design team. In order to deliver the project within a developer’s budget the variety in detailing was kept to a minimum so that economies of scale from repeat elements were achievable. This included the use of precast concrete floors which were supported on an in-situ concrete frame and provided the thermal mass to assist in night cooling.
SAP is an international business software provider that assists companies of all sizes to become best-run businesses with increased insight, efficiency, innovation and flexibility. Completed under a design and build contract in 2004, the 4,750m2 building in Galway houses a call centre for SAP.
The success of this landmark building in Galway is highlighted by the receipt of the prestigious Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Regional Award 2005.
